Spend time in the Naso villages of Santa Rosa and Sieyik – the Naso capital, and home to their king – learning about the local crafts, dances and food. Relax at Soposo lodge, with your host family who will share their native language and Naso folklore around dinner and night time camp fires. All food is locally grown and freshly prepared – you will be able to tour the botanical gardens and plant a tree as part of the reforestation project.

There will be plenty of opportunities to appreciate the wild jungle scenery of La Amistad International Peace Park during canoe rides and jungle hikes, your guide will help you catch a glimpse of the sloths, iguanas and toucans that inhabit the ancient trees. Your final trip back downriver will be in traditional Naso style – on a small balsa raft.

Soposo promotes the Naso culture through this ecotourism venture, and hopes to continue to work towards the promise of conserving the natural habitat for generations of flora, fauna and Naso people to come.

With the changes in sociaty and economics forcing many native Naso people to leave their villages and their traditional culture behind, Soposo Rainforest Adventures will help the Naso learn to value their own culture and natural resources as they are reflected in the eyes of the visitors. This enterprise will give many community members the chance to use their traditional skills to augment their income and promote the education of traditional ways among the younger generations.

Soposo Rainforest Adventures works in conjunction with several organized community groups, including ASOMETRAN, a group dedicated to continuing the use of traditional Naso botanical medicine, and Damas Unidas Naso, a group of Naso Women that is responsible for organizing the members from all eleven Naso communities to promote the preservation of Naso culture. Several tours offered by Soposo visit individual Naso communities to participate directly with the members of the communities´ women’s groups. A portion of all proceeds earned by Soposo Rainforest Adventures goes directly to the community groups.

Soposo organizationally and financially supports community clean-up projects, Naso language classes, environmental education for both children and adults, tourism/hospitality training for all involved members, reforestation projects and sustainable, organic agriculture.

Soposo Rainforest Adventures advocates and promotes conservation, as well as health and nutrition in the community, by using sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques in all aspects of the business, including solar energy, composting latrines and organic gardens that visitors as well as local villagers can enjoy.
