This half day tour takes you up close to some of the Caribbean Sea’s most dramatic wildlife
Tranquilo Bay
| Location: | Isla Bastimentos |

Our six deluxe air-conditioned cabanas are comfortably appointed with air-conditioning, tiled floors, fine linens, and handcrafted beds with orthopedic mattresses. Enjoy the various books found in each bedroom from the hammock of your private, covered porch, overlooking beautiful views.
The Main Lodge is where meals and indoor recreational activities take place. The ocean view and elevation over the jungle canopy are incredible. Our upstairs balcony is the perfect place to watch the sun rise with your morning coffee or the moon rise with a cold beverage. Monkeys and birds travel through on their late afternoon migration.
Tranquilo Bay has over a kilometer of coastline covered in coral gardens teeming with tropical fish. Our facilities encompass more than 110 acres and three ecosystems, with over a mile of hiking trails full of wildlife.

Sustainability
Tranquilo Bay has been constructed using renewable and recyclable materials such as steel and concrete, which do not require extensive maintenance nor replenishment on a regular basis. The use of both local hardwoods and chemicals is limited as much as possible.
Our greatest environmental contribution has been to keep the site small - just six cabins - and to preserve 80 of our 110 acres.
We purchase food in bulk, bake our own bread and grow fruit and herbs on site. This limits transportation and reduces the use of plastic, as do our reusable packed lunch containers. We have water catchment and purification systems, which means we do not purchase bottled water.
We worked with the nearby indigenous community of Salt Creek to establish over 500 acres of reserve land next to Tranquilo Bay and Bastimentos National Marine Park. We support or are members of several local charities and NGOs, and volunteer in the neighboring Bastimentos National Marine Park.
Activities
Tranquilo Bay is fortunate to have an incredible number of excursions for the outdoor enthusiast. We can tailor your trip if you have a particular activity that you would like to experience. Below is just a sample of the activities we offer - please contact us if you require more details about a particular excursion.
Beach Excursions
Tranquilo Bay is located in the heart of the archipelago, which makes it possible to visit a different beach every day during your stay.
Plenty of cold drinks and sweet rain water are packed with your favorite sandwiches and plenty of fruit. Beach chairs, towels and snorkel gear are a few of the simple beach amenities we offer to complete the experience.
We offer Beach Excursions to Punta Vieja, Playa Larga Zapatillas, Cayo de Agua and Punta Valiente. Excursions last between two and six hours.
Bird Watching
There is a local saying that while in other countries you have 20 tourists looking at one bird, in Panama, you have one tourist looking at 20 birds.
In the areas we explore, the altitude ranges from 7,000 feet to sea level, and nearly 500 species of birds can be found.
Species include parrots, herons, ibises, boobies, frigate birds, terns, jaegers, birds of prey, owls, hummingbirds, kingfishers, woodpeckers, tyrant flycatchers, cotingas, manakins, warblers, tanagers and finches.
Jungle Hikes
Tranquilo Bay is surrounded by the single largest remaining tract of virgin forest unit in Central America.
We often cross three or more ecosystems in a single excursion. A knowledgeable guide, equipped with a sharp machete and extensive experience, will accompany your group into the rainforest.
Jungle Hikes include Bastimentos National Marine Park, Punta Vieja, Cayo de Agua, Beaches and Bluffs, and Punta Valiente and Palo Seco Reserve on the mainland.
Historical, Agricultural and Culture Tours
Tranquilo Bay offers a range of tours to acquaint visitors with the diverse history of Bocas del Toro, through the banana and cacao plantations to the indigenous Ngöbe villages scattered across the region. Learn the medicinal properties of the jungle plants, let a village rake you on a wildlife tour, or explore a tropical farm with lush fruits bursting from the trees.
Inshore and Offshore Fishing Excursions
The secluded western Caribbean coast of Panama is wild and undeveloped, which is exactly what makes fishing these waters so remarkable. The fishing here is world class, but not world famous. We rarely see another angler. Come fish with us and let exotic wildlife and big fish in an untouched landscape create the fishing experience of a lifetime.
Sea Kayaking
Whether you seek the serenity of calm backwaters, the surge of jagged frontal coastline, or a little whitewater, we schedule excursions to accommodate all levels. A chase boat carrying extra gear, food, beverages, safety and first aid equipment will accompany all off-site excursions. For those new to the sport, we provide a thorough kayak/safety lesson so that you are adequately prepared for your adventure.
Our kayaking trips last between four and eight hours, and include Nivida Cave, the Bahia Honda mangroves, Cayo de Agua and Zapatillas.
Surfing Excursions
We know you came here to surf, not paddle. We explore the waves in comfort, with a boat to drop you right by the take-off point, and then drop anchor to serve as a rest stop. Cold drinks, towels and shade are never more than a short paddle away.
We offer surf excursions to various locations around Islas Colón, Carenero, Bastimentos and Zapatillas, as well as the mainland.
Diving and Snorkeling
Tranquilo Bay´s underwater excursions are designed to explore as many different realms as possible while focusing on habitat and species diversity. Snorkeling instruction is available upon request. PADI instruction is available for an additional charge and should be reserved at time of booking. Our staff will handle the equipment... You enjoy your vacation!
Diving excursions include Bastimentos National Marine Park, Punta Valiente, Cayo de Agua, Isla Popa and Isla Tigres.
