MOVIDA - Catamaran Sailing & Snorkeling Adventures has been running tours in Bocas Del Toro for the last seven years.
We operate an environmentally friendly tour by using sails to power our boat, and providing passengers with information about the area, etiquette behind snorkeling, and reef protection.

Tour Description

Our tour is unique because we are not in a rush! We sail calmly and take time to observe all the life around us, especially within the mangroves. Our snorkeling spots are outrageous, ranging from shallow sponge coral reefs, deeper brain coral reefs, and even a wreck.
The highlight of this tour is our visit to the dolphins. We take it slowly and the dolphins love to play within the hulls of the catamaran…it’s awesome!
We also offer overnight tours for groups, and sailing classes - you will be sailing on the Caribbean on your own after just a few days!

Our Catamaran

Movida, meaning Movement in Spanish, is the name of the boat. She is 42 feet long, light and fast, and has completed three Atlantic crossings.
This tour is a hands-on experience; feel free to take the helm, raise sails, and navigate!
Our captains Marcell, Chris and Maga welcome you aboard!

Tour to Dolphin Bay and Coral Cay

Leaving Bocas town at 9:30 am, we sail past tropical islands to tranquil Dolphin Bay. Using our sails rather than a motor avoids the risk of injuring the animals, and our gentle movements in the Bay means they are curious enough to swim right up to the boat!

From there, we sail to a beautiful, yet little-known coral reef, which is shallow and ideal for snorkeling. No other boats come here, and as a result the reefs are pristine. You can also swim inside the roots of the nearby mangroves, where you will be greeted by barracudas, snappers and thousands of sardines. In the deeper waters, you may even spy a sleeping nurse shark.

After snorkeling, we serve you a large sandwich and a drink before continuing to Coral Cay - a magnificent reef full of large brain coral, horn coral, groupers and angel fish.
Around this time of the day, the wind picks up and we begin to sail home, arriving around 4:45 pm.

Sustainability

  • The catamaran is much greener than other boats, as we use our sails all day, turning on our diesel engine only when the wind is light.
  • Diesel is the most efficient fuel and produces less greenhouse gases than gas. In one year we spend under $400 in diesel!
  • The captains enjoy educating our passengers about the health of the reefs, mangroves and the dolphins. Our batteries are charged by solar panels, and we use salt water to clean the boat, then rinse with fresh.
  • All bottles and cans we use are recycled, and we educate our neighbourhood about proper trash disposal and respecting the environment.
  • We use local produce to prepare our meals and employ local staff - our deck hand is an indigenous Ngöbe.
