The channels and bays of the archipelago offer vibrant coral, ship wrecks and deep reef walls and caverns which are home to shoals of tropical fish, colorful sponges and starfish, rays and the odd small shark. Many of the reefs are shallow and suitable for snorkeling.
Snorkeling equipment is available to rent cheaply from many tour operators and hostels, and tours can be easily arranged with local boat drivers or through your hotel.
The dive schools along the waterfront of Bocas town and Bastimentos offer some of the most competitively priced PADI certifications in the Caribbean, and the highly qualified instructors teach courses from the initial Open Water Dive up to professional level.
