Salt Creek Culture and Nature Day Tour

Enjoy the hospitality, food and culture of a traditional Ngöbe village, and hike through the beaches and rain forests of Bastimentos National Marine Park with a knowledgeable native guide.
After enjoying your choice of one of the four tours described below, you will return to Salt Creek community in time for lunch, freshly prepared with local ingredients, and a traditional dance demonstration. This one-day tour is perfect for those who are short of time.
The meeting point is at the office of the Boteros Bocatoreños Unidos on Calle 3, near the BSTA Tourist Information Center. The boat will depart at approximately 9:30 am and arrive in the community at 10 am.
What to bring
Water, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes (there is a lot of mud) umbrella or rain jacket, sunglasses, sun screen.
Price
$45 per person, transport to and from Salt Creek is not included.

Boca Murcielago - The Bat´s Mouth
The tour begins with a 90 minute walk through the beautiful community and the neighbouring Bastimentos National Marine Park, where red poison dart frogs, sloths, and an array of unique trees can be seen. At the end of the trail we reach a cave, home to three different species of bats.
Total tour time: 3 hours
Nature Hike to Long Beach
Starting at Salt Creek, your native guide will lead you through Bastimentos National Marine Park, where you can view a plethora of trees, plants, bird species, and the famous red poison dart frogs. Halfway through the trek you will have the chance to visit the “mirador” - a look-out point with a glorious ocean view across Bastimentos.
Continuing through the park, we will reach small but majestic waterfall.
After traversing a community-owned banana plantation, the journey comes to an end at the wild, empty expanse of Long Beach.

Playa Pelicano - Pelican Beach
Pelican Beach is an hour´s walk from Salt Creek through a trail which sloths, exotic birds, and capuchin monkeys call their home. Along the trail lie medicinal plants which will be explained to you by your knowledgeable, native guide. Pelican Beach is a little-known, secluded part of the coast, which offers medium sized waves that may appeal to novice surfers.

Sendero Caiman - The Caiman Trail
Within the village of Salt Creek there is a private trail maintained by one of the oldest families in the community. Look out for the crocodiles and caimans that live along the route. Your native guide will be able to show you the birds and plants of this region, and if you decide to stay overnight, you may even be lucky enough to spot a tiny night monkey!
