When the swells arrive, Bocas has some of the best waves and variety of breaks in the Caribbean. The most extreme breaks on the windward side of the archipelago can reach heights of over six meters, while the sheltered, inside reefs and shoals create smaller waves with less current. These are perfect for the beginner and still a fun ride for experienced surfers.

There are several surf schools, board rentals and independent instructors in Bocas del Toro, who are competitively priced, especially if you book a course of three or more lessons. The variety of swells around the islands means that classes can be arranged for any age or experience level.

For the dedicated surfer, extended surf trips can be arranged, allowing you to reach the remoter parts of the archipelago and the wave-battered peninsulas of the mainland, and to indulge in your passion for days on end.
