Bocas del Toro has some of the best surf in the Caribbean, and is suitable for absolute beginners up to advanced level surfers.

Luis Bertone offers three-hour surf lessons for beginners, taking advantage of some of Bocas’s calmer surf spots. Depending on the conditions and your surfing experience, you will be taken to either Black Rock off Isla Carenero, or to Wizard Beach on Isla Bastimentos. These waves break over mostly sandy reefs, making it much safer for new surfers.

You will be taken out to the reefs by boat, minimizing the amount of paddling you need to do, and maximizing your time learning to surf!

Classes can be given in English or Spanish, and to ensure the safety of the students, more instructors will accompany larger groups.

Your Instructor

Luis Bertone is originally from Argentina, and has been surfing for over 15 years. He has been teaching students of all ages to surf in Bocas del Toro since 2000.

Board Rental

Board rental is included in the price of the lesson.

Surf boards are also available to rent to independent surfers from $15 to $20 per day, depending on the type of board.

Itinerary

Luis’s surf lessons can be scheduled any day of the week, depending on the surf and weather conditions, starting either at 9am or at 3pm.

You will be met at the Buccaneer Resort, on Isla Carenero, and travel by boat to either Black Rock or Wizard Beach.

Sun screen, large bottle of water, t-shirt for sun protection

$45 per person, or$110  for a three lesson package. Discounts are offered for groups of over four people
