Rain forests

The spectacular rain forests of Bocas del Toro remain relatively unexplored, thanks to their difficult access, lack of roads, and pressure from their indigenous inhabitants.

But those intrepid travelers who are prepared to hike, to cross the ocean or to sail upriver in dugout canoes will be rewarded with the experience of nature at its purest.

Here, there are sloths, caimans, kinkajous, armadillos, opossums, toucans, iguanas, parrots, several species of monkeys, poison dart frogs and even incredibly rare tapirs. Abundant exotic fruits tumble from the trees, and vivid orchids cling to the trunks.

Spend a night in the jungle to hear it at its most lively  - when the night monkeys, two-toed sloths and cicadas emerge, and the fireflies light up the trees.
