This half day tour takes you up close to some of the Caribbean Sea’s most dramatic wildlife
Isla Bastimentos
| Location: | Isla Bastimentos |
Isla Bastimentos is almost entirely covered in dense primary and
secondary rain forest, 4,100 acres of which are protected by the
Bastimentos National Marine Park.
Once you get beyond the small town of Old Bank, the island is almost entirely undeveloped, but there are several hiking trails which you can follow to see this spectacular jungle up close.
For an island, Bastimentos is home to an incredible diversity of species, including monkeys, caimans, sloths, bats and armadillos. Native bird species include oropendolas with their exotic calls, and several species of hummingbirds. There is also a variety of hardwood trees, vivid orchids, palms and fruit trees.
