La Amistad National ForestThe word “Amistad” means friendship in Spanish, and is used to describe the park spanning the border between Costa Rica and Panama.

Designated a World Heritage Site thanks to its biological and cultural diversity, it contains the largest expanse of undisturbed cloud forest in Central America. It is home to large, rare mammals that require large tracts of land for their survival such as the jaguar, tapir, and giant anteater. It is estimated that this park contains around one fifth of the region´s species diversity, from the lowlands surrounding the Teribe River, soaring up to the cloud forests of the Talamanca mountain range.

One of the best ways to explore this wild region is to visit one of the small, native Naso communities. Having spent their lives in this jungle, and using its plants for food, medicine, and building and craft materials, the Naso guides are delighted to share their rich, ancient knowledge with curious visitors.
