This half day tour takes you up close to some of the Caribbean Sea’s most dramatic wildlife
Howler Monkeys
The howler monkeys’ distinctive calls travel up to five kilometers and can be heard across the forests of the mainland and Isla Colón. Their low, growling barks allow male monkeys to locate each other and communicate without moving, or risking aggressive confrontation with other males. This energy-saving measure has been developed in response to the animals´ low-energy diet of leaves, occasionally supplemented with fruits and flowers.
As well as being a much-loved and distinctive feature of the jungles of Bocas del Toro, the monkeys play an important role as seed dispersers, and the loss of this species would have serious consequences for the forests´ ecosystems.
