Bars & Nightlife

Bocas del Toro is notorious amongst travelers for its non-stop nightlife and festive atmosphere. Some places host themed parties each night, which are an excuse for comical costumes and retro music, while each bar has its own "Ladies Night" - where women receive free drinks until around 11 or 12 at night.

Some bars offer live music or DJs, but as the night wears on the volume gets cranked up at every bar across town, and you are likely to find yourself dancing over the water and under the milky way until the early hours of the morning. Salsa, merengue, reggae and reggaeton are local favourites, and there's ample opportunity for watching swift footed dancers twirl across the floorboards. If the humid Caribbean night is just too much, be sure to wear your bathing suit, and you can simply jump off the bar's diving board and into the warm ocean.

Packed water taxis will shuttle between Bocas town and Isla Carenero as long as the bars remain open, though if you are returning to Old Bank you should aim to be on a  boat by midnight.
